Lobos Host Tulsa Friday in Thanksgiving Tourney

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is set to host three teams in this year’s Thanksgiving Tournament tipping off on Friday at WisePies Arena – The Pit. The Lobos will play in the second game on Friday vs. Tulsa at 7 p.m. before playing at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Friday’s games will mark a special Black Friday ticket price which will enable fans to attend both Friday contests for a total of $5. This special promotion is only available on Friday, Nov. 25.

Tournament Schedule:
Friday, Nov. 25 | Game 1: BYU vs. St. Joseph’s – 4:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 25 | Game 2: UNM vs. Tulsa – 7 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 26 | Game 3: Tulsa vs. BYU or St. Joseph’s – 12 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 26 | Game 4: UNM vs. BYU or St. Joseph’s – 2:30 p.m.

LIVE STATS will be available for all games at lobos.statbroadcast.com, LIVE VIDEO will be available on the Mountain West Network only for the two Lobo games. 

The Lobos enter the game coming off of a close loss at Texas Tech on Sunday, Nov. 20 in which the squads changed leads seven times before UNM finally fell in the fourth quarter. The UNM defense continued to step up, preventing the Lobos’ third opponent from shooting over 35 percent. The Lobos average allowing their opponents to shoot just 30.5 percent from the floor.

Offensively, the Lobos have had eight scorers net double digits this season and have had at least one player score at least 20 points in each of their three games in 2016-17. Senior Richelle van der Keijl scored 20 and redshirt-junior Alex Lapeyrolerie scored 21 in the season opener vs. Fairleigh Dickinson while Lapeyrolerie followed it up with 22 in UNM’s game vs NM State. In the Lobos’ last outing, freshman Mykiel Burleson scored a career-high 22.

The Lobos will take on Tulsa in their first game of the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. 

The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with the Lobos, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 180-118 and a 2-1 record at the helm of the Lobos.

Tulsa is coached by Matilda Mossman in her sixth season. She posts a 72-81 record at Tulsa and a 219-174 record in her career.

Series History:
The Lobos are 3-0 over Tulsa in program history with the last meeting between the two squads taking place on March 2, 1998. UNM claimed a 64-54 victory in the matchup.
