New Mexico Game Notes | Colorado State Game Notes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Lobo Football team has won five straight games and is 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain West’s West Division.  This weekend however, they are the uninvited guests looking to spoil a very big party.  The Lobos head to Ft. Collins to take on the Colorado State Rams in primetime on ESPN2 at 8:15 p.m.

The Lobos will be attempting to crash the party for the Rams, as the game is the final game in Hughes Stadium before CSU moves into its new on-campus home.  Colorado State is pulling out all the stops with bringing back various alumni and former players, and having a lavish postgame ceremony.  For UNM, the hop is that ceremony before shutting off the scoreboard lights will show more points under UNM’s logo than CSU’s.  It won’t be easy.

Head Coach Bob Davie has led UNM to back-to-back seven-win seasons for just the fifth time in school history, and back-to-back bowl games for the fourth time in school history, but he has not solved the CSU riddle, going 0-4 against the Rams, the only Mountain Division foe his team hasn’t defeated.  Last year CSU entered week 12 with a 5-5 record and defeated UNM 28-21 to get bowl eligible.  The Lobos are hoping it’s not deja vu all over again as CSU enters this week 12 matchup with a 5-5 record.

The Lobos with a win would remain in first place in the Mountain Division and set up a potential first place showdown with Wyoming the following week.  With some tiebreaker help, the Lobos could find themselves in the Mountain West title games, which would be their first title game appearance since 1997.  However, before all that comes Colorado State and a Rams team that lost last week 49-46 to Air Force but has won two of it’s last three and has scored 31 points in all but two games.
