ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team is looking to continue its momentum on Friday after advancing to the 2016 Conference USA Semifinals in penalty kicks over No. 19 Kentucky. The Lobos face No. 5 Charlotte on Friday at 2:30 p.m. (MT).

The Lobos have not lost in their last five games, since UNM fell to then-ranked No. 5 Denver in double overtime on Oct. 19. UNM’s last five games have included three wins, two shutouts, and two ties.

While Wednesday’s game will technically go in the books as a tie, it marks the second time this season that the Lobos have not fallen to a ranked team this season. UNM topped No. 25 South Carolina on Oct. 30 by a score of 2-1 to break its four-loss streak to ranked opponents this season. UNM advanced past Kentucky earning the advantage in the shootout, 2-1.

The Last time the Lobos faced Charlotte resulted in a narrow 2-1 defeat on the road on Oct. 8. The 49ers, then ranked No. 17, got on the board early, scoring twice in the first half. Senior Niko Hansen registered UNM’s lone goal in the 55th minute to reduce the deficit but the Lobos failed to notch the equalizer.

The Lobos look for redemption in Friday’s matchup. A win would send UNM to the Conference USA Finals where they would play for the conference title for the first time since becoming a member of Conference USA.
