KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team was named one of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Team Academic Award recipients Thursday for its exemplary performance in the classroom for the 2015-16 academic year.
The Lobos finished the 2015-16 season with a cumulative GPA of 3.54 – tied for 67th in the country, which includes all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA.
Overall, 577 women’s soccer teams earned the award across the nation.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA then dividing by the number of players.
The Lobo women’s soccer program headed into the 2016-17 school year with an impressive streak of 12 straight semesters of a 3.4 GPA or higher. The 2015 season also marked the 10th straight year in which the Lobos earned Academic All-District honors.
