COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico senior Maddie Irwin earned All-Mountain West Second Team women’s soccer honors for the second time in her career Monday when the conference released the awards.
Irwin finished the season with six goals and three assists – good for 15 points (10th in the conference).
More than that, Irwin was a captain and driving force at the midfield position for the Lobos.
In conference play she came up with key plays in key games – such as scoring the first goal against San Diego State in a 2-1 overtime victory on the road, an Aztec team that finished third in the conference and hadn’t lost a home game in conference play since 2014.
Against second-place San Jose State, Irwin scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-1 victory on the road over the Spartans.
Irwin finished her Lobo career with 11 goals and four assists while playing in 73 games, including 52 starts (has started every game the last two seasons for New Mexico). She also took 111 shots in her career, good for eighth on the all-time Lobo list.
