Cherry & Silver Rosters

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The defending Mountain West champion University of New Mexico baseball team will give its fans their first look of the 2017 squad as the Lobos compete in their annual Cherry & Silver World Series starting 6 p.m. Tuesday at Santa Ana Star Field.

The five-game series will be played over a five-day period starting Tuesday and going through Saturday. The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday games will start at 6 p.m., the Friday game will begin at 2 p.m. and the Saturday contest will start at noon.

Each team will have a different set of guest coaches each game (see below) that have contributed to the Lobo baseball program in one way or the other.

As for the Lobos themselves, they are coming off their fifth trip to the NCAA postseason in seven seasons after claiming their third Mountain West Tournament title since 2011. New Mexico went 39-23 on the season, which included a program-record 20 victories on the road.

The Lobos return several key players from last season’s squad such as reigning Mountain West Player of the Year and third baseman Carl Stajduhar (.331, 18 HR, 66 RBI), outfielder and pitcher Luis Gonzalez (.381, 6 HR, 21 2B, 48 RBI, 18 SB) and first baseman Jack Zoellner (.307, 8 HR, 47 RBI) as well as starting pitchers Tyler Stevens (8-4, 4.11 ERA, 78 SO) and Carson Schneider (9-4, 4.68 ERA, 44 SO).

All the games will be played at Santa Ana Star Field and are free to attend.

HOWEVER with events happening at WisePies Arena and University Stadium at different times during the week, it’s highly advised fans take the Gibson exit off of I-25 and enter through the south gate and park in the parking lot behind Santa Ana Star Field.
