LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Lobo women’s golf team closed out their fall schedule at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showcase on Tuesday finishing 16th overall with a score of 583.
After Sunday, the Lobos were in 19th and were hopeful to move up the leaderboard heading into Monday. The field was waiting in a four-hour lightning delay before tournament officials postponed till Tuesday. While the tournament was planning to have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. [PT], another delay for fog was called, but the Lobos were finally able to tee off around 10:30 a.m. [PT].
“We had much better control of our shots today and a lot more birdies which was key,” said UNM coach Jill Trujillo.
Eva Saulnier had four birdies in total for the day and brought in a score of 4-under-par 68 and tournament total to 141 to lead the Lobos. Darian Zachek was very close behind after coming away with six birdies and a score of 2-under-par 70 and a total score 143. Ingrid Gutierrez hopped onto the birdie train with four and scored 1-under-par 71 totaling at 146. Alexandra Moisand had a consistent final round totaling 3-over-par 75 and finished the tournament with 154. Emma Edwards came in second for the most birdies for the Lobos totaling at five in the final round and scored 5-over-par 77 and overall 155 in Vegas.
UNM’s individuals for the week were Katerina Jaeger who finished Tuesday being 2-over-par 74 and a total score of 147 and Manon Molle’ who finished 7-over-par 79 and completed the tournament with an overall score of 152.
“It’s good for us to finish our last round of the fall on a high note,” noted Trujillo as the Lobos finished their fall season.
The Lobos will not head back out on the greens until February 27 at the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine. In the meantime, the team will reflect on what needs to be worked on during the winter break.
