Lobos Finish 19th After First Round in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showcase in 19th with a total score of 11-over-par 299 Sunday.

Eva Saulnier and Darian Zachek ended the first round with a 73 and both Lobos had one birdie each during the first day in Las Vegas. Ingrid Gutierrez was 4-over-par in the front nine and closed out 1-under par 75 after getting a birdie on the 17th hole. Emma Edwards was 3-over-par in both the front and back nines with a score of 78. After working past three double bogeys in her front nine, Alexandra Moisand finished with a 79.

The two Lobos fielding as individuals include Manon Molle’ who finished 1-over par 73 and totaled two birdies on both the fifth and ninth holes in the front nine. Also, Katerina Jaeger finished 3-over-par 75 after earning a respectable birdie on the 16th hole.

From the field, Baylor sits in first at 15-under-par 273 and a strong 21 birdie total for the team. Idaho closely follows with 10-under-par 278 to claim the second position. The host UNLV and San Diego State are both tied for third with a total score of 8-under-par 280. After totaling at 7-under-par 281, San Jose State closes the first round in fifth.

“We have to make more birdies tomorrow. It’s a must at this tournament,” said UNM coach Jill Trujillo.

The Lobos seek to total up their birdies as they head into the second round on Monday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showcase and will tee off at 8 a.m. [PT].
