LAS VEGAS, N.V. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team closes out its Fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV starting on Sunday.
The Lobos finished 13th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Tuesday after a windy struggle at the University of Texas Golf Course. The team only had three days to rest, regroup and prepare for a strong ending for this season heading into the Spring.

“We all knew it wasn’t our best tournament and we only had a couple days to turn that around,” UNM coach Jill Trujillo. “We’re in a pretty good mindset and we are just trying to keep a positive outlook on things and the rest of this tournament.”

After last year, the 2015-16 Lobos broke an overall team scorerecord of 281-282-283 totaling 846 at -18 under, significantly surpassing Trujillo’s 2009-10 Lobos who held a 10-under-par 866 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire home event. From last year’s team, Alexandra Moisand and Ingrid Gutierrez finished tied for 18th at 7-under-par 209. Rounding out the lineup for the Lobos is senior, Eva Saulnier, and sophomores Darian Zachek and Emma Edwards. Also playing for the Lobos this week are seniors Katerina Jaeger and Manon Molle’ who will be competing as individuals.

“This course is typically one where people score very low on, and as far as people are ranked, it doesn’t always matter,” noted Trujillo about the field in Las Vegas.

Seeing as this is the Lobos’ last chance to play until the Spring, this is an opportunity for the team to finish well and set a competitive tone for themselves before the coming season.

“We are ready to go this week and do our best,” said Trujillo.

The Lobos are competing against 19 teams, including No. 14 Texas who shared the field a few days ago with UNM on their home course in Austin, Texas.

Tee time for the Lobos will be Noon [PT] with a shotgun start at the Boulder Creek Golf Club on the Desert Hawk and Coyote Run Courses.
