AUSTIN, Texas – After a long first day at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, the Lobos end the consecutive 36-hole day with a tie for 12th with Notre Dame. The total score for the Lobos was 619, 43-over par after struggling through a windy day at the University of Texas Golf Course.
“Not our best effort today,” said UNM head coach Jill Trujillo after the second round came to a close early Monday evening.
Ingrid Gutierrez came out on top for the Lobos with a total score of 148 at the end of the second round. In total, Gutierrez had a single birdie in the front nine during the first round and four birdies in the second round. Alexandra Moisand came close behind with 154 as her combined score after the first and second rounds. Eva Saulnier finished with a total score of 155 and four birdies in the second round. After two solid birdies in the first round, Katerina Jaeger totaled her score at 162 and respectfully, Manon Mollé finished with a score of 164 for the Lobos.
“The wind picked up and if you hit the ball out of the fairway, it will cost you,” noted Trujillo.
It was apparent that the team was not the most prepared for the wind but together, UNM continued to power through their 36-hole day in Austin and made the best efforts they could despite the unfortunate weather challenges.
No. 11 Miami is currently in first with a total score of 570, six-under par after the first day. No. 10 Kent State follows behind with a combined team score of 578, two-over par. No. 19 Texas finished the day in third with a score of 584, eight-over par. UNLV clinched fourth after the second round with a total score of 590, 14-over par and with a very close following, Baylor takes the fifth spot with the score of 591, 15-over par.
“Tomorrow we need to be much more committed to our shots and focus on the task at hand,” said Trujillo.
The Lobos seek to move up in the standings on Tuesday, October 18 as they play the final round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and UNM will tee off at 8:45 a.m. [CT].
