COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The University of New Mexico women’s soccer program is selected to finish third in the Mountain West according to the Mountain West Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday.
The Lobos are picked to finish behind defending MW champions San Diego State (nine first-place votes) and San Jose State (three first-place votes) – a Spartans team that defeated UNM in the Mountain West Tournament semifinals last season in penalty kicks.
New Mexico is coming off a 10-8-2 campaign in Heather Dyche’s first season at the helm. That included a 7-3-1 mark in the Mountain West, good for third place.
UNM plays its Cherry & Silver scrimmage 7 p.m. Thursday before hosting an exhibition 6 p.m. Sunday against Eastern New Mexico University. Both are open to the pubic and free to attend.
The Lobos open the season on the road against Texas Tech on Aug. 19 in Lubbock, Texas. UNM’s first home match will be Sept. 16 against New Mexico State.
Fans can purchase the 2016-17 Lobo Pride Pass for $50, which provides admission to every home women’s soccer match, plus all home volleyball, men’s soccer, softball, baseball and track & field events.
