Lobos Rank Among the Best in the Nation

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball program had another strong campaign, reflecting in multiple top 10 national statistical rankings.
 
The final statistical rankings for the season have been finalized by the NCAA, and below is a report on where the Lobos finished:

During the 2016 campaign, the Lobos led the Mountain West in 13 different categories, the most since 2013. It is by far the highest total in the league, with Nevada leading in eight categories and Fresno State in six.
 
Standing out the most on the table is the Lobos NCAA-best 150 doubles. The Lobos are just the seventh team in the nation to hit 150 doubles or more in a season since 2011. UNM had three players rank individually in the top 50 in doubles in Luis Gonzalez (21) Jared Holley (21) and Chris DeVito (20).
 
The Lobos 150 doubles allowed the team to lead the MW in slugging percentage and finishing in the top-5 nationally .492. It’s the best mark for a Ray Birmingham coached team since his Lobos led the nation in 2013.
 
The Lobos were an all-around strong offensive team in 2016, as the squad also ranked sixth nationally in on base percentage at .410. The Lobos were just .015 percentage points back from the national leader in UNCG.
