Lobo Alum Riddle Honored by Hometown Roswell

ROSWELL, N.M. — University of New Mexico volleyball alumna Chantale Riddle was honored by the City of Roswell on Friday, as Roswell mayor Dennis Kintigh proclaimed Friday as Chantale Riddle Day.

Riddle, a Roswell native, was a standout three-sport athlete at Roswell High School, and went on to shine for the Lobos, becoming UNM’s first three-time All-American in volleyball and the school and Mountain West record holder in career kills.

“Today has been a very emotional and honoring day,” Riddle said. “… I am so honored to receive this award around the people who all helped get me there. I know my mother Laura Williams Riddle would have loved to be here to see this day.”

The ceremony was done in conjunction with the first Chantale Riddle volleyball camp, with over 120 people in attendance. The city and the Roswell Parks and Recreation Department was represented, along with Riddle’s high school coach, Bryan Massey.

New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson also was in attendance at Yucca Recreation Center in Roswell.

“It was a wonderful event celebrating all of Chantale’s accomplishments,” Nelson said. “She was clearly emotional and very honored. I was proud to be there and get to be a part of her day.”

After her career at New Mexico, in which she was named New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Female Athlete of the Year twice, Riddle has gone onto play professionally in Switzerland.
