ALBUQUEUQUE, N.M. — Bart Scott, who just completed his second season as the head coach for The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team, has announced his resignation and will be moving into private sector. His resignation will take effect June 30.
Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs has announced that a national search will be conducted to hire Scott’s replacement.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Krebs and Tim Cass for the opportunity to serve a program that I love more than words can describe,” said Scott. “I am a Lobo through and through, and to be able to play here, join the staff as an assistant coach, and then eventually lead the program and these amazing student athletes has been a dream come true. I’d especially like to thank Alan and Loren Dils for their guidance, leadership and friendship, and for also helping me throughout my professional career.”
Scott added, “Most of all I want to say a special thank you to all of our Lobos who have come through the program. They made this job so special. I am a Lobo for Life and I will continue to support all the Lobo teams but especially the tennis teams as we move forward on our families journey.”
Scott in his two seasons with New Mexico went 35-27, including a 20-11 season in 2014-15 in which Scott was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year. The Lobos won the regular season title under Scott that season and went to the NCAA Tournament, playing at Texas A&M.
Scott spent the previous six seasons as first Assistant Coach (2008-12) and then as Associate Head Coach (2012-14). While serving as the Associate Head Coach, the Lobos advanced to the Mountain West Tournament championship match both seasons. He was named the ITA Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year for 2012. He won three championships as a player for New Mexico from 1999-03, winning the clinching point in 2000 as a freshman in what would be the first Mountain West title for any New Mexico program.
