We woke up to another brisk morning in Dandenong, but we were excited for a day of exploring Melbourne and seeing what it had to offer. We started the morning with a good breakfast and crazy conversations about not wanting to leave Australia and how we were excited to spend our last couple of days closer to the city of Melbourne.
As soon as we got into Melbourne, we went to a gym to get a weight session in, which felt so good after playing three tough matches this week. Shortly after that, we went to the St. Kilda Pier. Here is where we saw mass amounts of starfish and pufferfish with an array of colorful algae along the harbor.

After checking into the hotel, we went to Pepperoni’s, which had a variety of choices for pizza and pastas. While we enjoyed the pizza, we were all ready for the next portion of the day: SHOPPING! Pauline let us explore the city of Melbourne for 4 hours! There were many restaurants, coffee shops, name-brand stores, everything you could imagine. We went off in different groups to explore and see what we could find. Some of us got to see St. Paul’s Catherdal while others got to see an Australian version of Chinatown!
All in all, we had a great time shopping and cruising through the city. Maddie said that it reminded her of a mini New York City while Devanne said that she was very overwhelmed by all the shops and people. Either way, we all agreed that it was a fun time and a great experience!
To top the night off, we went to a restaurant called Veludo, where most of us ate a delicious steak with salad and chips (french fries). While at dinner, we got to catch up with Lena Skipper, an alumna of the Lady Lobos. It was nice to talk with her and she how she was doing. The entire day was filled with adventure and great food! We can’t wait to see what there is planned for our last day Down Under!
Fans can follow the team’s Facebook page (University of New Mexico Volleyball) and Twitter (@UNMVolley) to keep track of the Lobos during their trip.
