ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After much anticipation, the Lobos women’s golf team was finally notified of their bid to the 2016 NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals.

“It was a real nail biter for us,” said Lobo head coach Jill Trujillo. “We haven’t performed well in our last few events, so we were on the bubble.”

“I’m excited for our team,” Trujillo explained. “They are a wonderful group of players.”

The Lobos were awarded the No. 13 seed at the Baton Rouge Regional. Hosted by LSU, the event will take place at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This is the 22nd postseason appearance for the Lobos in the last 24 years.

Leading the Lobos into the postseason will be sophomore, Ingrid Gutierrez. Gutierrez has had two top-10 finishes and five top-20 finishes on the season and has been awarded both a co-golfer of the month and a golfer of the week honor this season.

The Mountain West will be represented by four teams and two individuals at Regionals. Joining the Lobos in the postseason is UNLV (No. 17), San Diego State (No.23), and San José State.

With a win at the Mountain West Championships, UNLV earned an automatic berth to the 2016 NCAA Regional tournament. The Rebels will be the fifth seed at the Stanford Regional. This is the 14th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance for the Rebels in the program’s 15-year history.

The San Diego State Aztecs will join UNLV at the Stanford Regional as the sixth seed. This is the sixth time in seven seasons that the Aztecs have attended the NCAA Regionals and the 12th time in the program’s history.

The San José Spartans will be the 15th seed at Stanford. This is the second straight year and 22nd time in program history that the Spartans have qualified for a postseason tournament.

Colorado State freshman, Katrina Prendergast, and Fresno State freshman, Kristin Simonsen, will also attend the Stanford Regional to compete as individuals.

A total of 72 teams and 24 individuals will compete in four different 54- hole regional tournaments from May 5-7. Six teams and three individuals from each tournament will advance to the national championships. The championships will be held from May 20-25 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
