ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team wrapped up the spring exhibition season with a pair of exhibition matches at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos drew NAU, 0-0, before defeating New Mexico Highlands, 1-0, in a 30 minute match.

The day started out with a full 90 minute match against NAU. Although the match ended scoreless, the Lobos were able to learn a lot from it, as NAU came out with high energy and challenged the home team early. NAU had solid chances in the Lobos’ defensive third, but never had a clear look at goal. On the opposite end, the Lobos were able to get into NAU’s 18-yard box and threaten.

In the second half, the Lobos executed adjustments well, pushing back NAU and alleviating the early pressure. The Lobos continued to press in the second half and nearly put themselves ahead. New Mexico had two great looks at goal late, with one just missing the target and the other forcing a great save. Ultimately, the match would end in a draw.

Later in the afternoon, the Lobos came out victorious over Highlands. In what was effectively a third of a match, the Lobos controlled possession from start to finish. They were able to get the ball into the 18-yard box several times, and put the game-winner through late. Claire Lynch scored the only goal on a great through ball from Amelia Bierle. Lynch made a great run beyond the back four of Highlands and snuck the ball past the keeper, sealing the 1-0 win.

The Lobos closed a strong spring in which the team played a variety of styles and faced top competition. Check back with GoLobos.com throughout the offseason for news leading into the 2016 fall campaign.
