ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Evah Tohi, a 6-2, 235 pound linebacker from Glendale Community College will join The University of New Mexico football program, head coach Bob Davie has announced. He will come to UNM as a junior in eligibility but have three seasons in which to play two.
Tohi, who prepped at North Canyon High School in Phoenix, played the last two seasons at Glendale CC, registering 119 tackles over 14 career games, including a sack, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. He was a first team All-ACCAC and second team All-WSL selection as a linebacker for his freshman season after recording 80 tackles in nine games.
“It’s been a long journey, but I’m glad that God has opened a door for me and allowed me to become a part of a great program with the Lobos and Coach Davie,” said Tohi.
As a senior at North Canyon, Tohi recorded 99 tackles (51 solo) with a sack and a pair of blocked kicks. He was named to the all-section team as well as team defensive MVP.
With UNM he would like to study communications. His father Sese Tohi played rugby in Texas.
With UNM, Tohi joins a rapidly improving, attacking defense that has shaved off two touchdowns against in the last two seasons. UNM’s defense was the fourth-most improved in the nation in terms of yards allowed per game last season and returns several veterans.
