Lobos Sweep NMSU for Sixth Straight Win
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team continued its winning ways, picking up a 4-0 sweep of back-to-back WAC champions New Mexico State, giving the Lobos a sixth consecutive win, and the teams’ eight win in the last nine outings.
The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team, ranked No. 53, have one regular season match left, on Saturday at home against Air Force at noon.
It took all three matches to establish the doubles point for UNM as UNM was down 1-0 after the No. 3 doubles concluded. No worries though, as Dominique Dulski and Emily Olivier won 6-4, and then Andrea Leblanc and Rashana Bhat picked up a 7-6 (7-2) win to clinch the opening point.
From there it was gravy as UNM took straight set wins at Nos. 4, 6, and 3 singles, in that order. First, Dulski combined her dominiating day with an easy 6-0, 6-2 win, and that was quickly followed by a 6-4, 6-4 win by Bhat and a 6-2, 7-5 win by Ludivine Burgeire to win it.
The win also increased UNM’s lead in the Rio Grande Rivalry to 16.875 – 7.125. UNM has never lost the Rivalry in all nine seasons it has been contested.
NOTES: Burguire has now won nine consecutive matches … the doubles team of Bhat and Leblanc are now 9-1 this season.
