ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The No. 45 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team faced another conference opponent today as they hosted Wyoming and they continued their streak, winning 5-2.
In doubles play, Emily Olivier and Dominique Dulski teamed up at the number one position and took on Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva. The pair topped Wyoming 6-4.
At the number three position Ludivine Burguiere and Sharon Coone clinched the doubles point and their match when they also beat their opponents 6-4. Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat were playing at the number two position when their match was left unfinished.
In singles play, Burguiere made quick work of Dorottya Jonas when she defeated her 6-1, 6-3. Shortly after, Bhat dominated Miranda Talbert to a 6-3 win in the first set and shut out win in the second.
At the number five position, Sharon Coone took on Tessa van Der Ploeg. In the first set, Coone won 6-4 and when she topped her opponenet 6-1 in the second, she won her match and clinched the match win for New Mexico.
The matches at the number two and four positions were played out. Olivier competed at the number two spot and battled Tokareva. She was trailing 5-3 in the first set, but came back to win 7-5. In the second she fell a close 6-4. In the third set ten-point tiebreaker, she continued her momentum and topped Wyoming 10-0.
Dulski fell in her set 6-3, but came back in the second to win the tiebreaker. By the time her third set was ready to go, the match had already been clinched so the two went into a tiebreaker. She fell 10-4. She competed at the number four position.
The Lobos advance to 2-0 in conference play and 9-6 in their season so far. They head to Idaho and Utah next weekend to continue Mountain West conference play as they take on Boise State and Utah State.
