COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico third baseman/designated hitter Carl Stajduhar has earned Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week for the second time in his career after leading UNM to a perfect 5-0 record on the week.
Nevada’s senior Christian Stolo was named the league’s Pitcher of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 20, 2016.
Stajduhar posted a batting average of .444 (8-for-18) with four runs scored, seven runs batted in, two doubles, one home run, one walk, one sacrifice hit and two hit-by-pitch. Had at least one hit in all five games with a .524 on-base percentage and a .722 slugging percentage. He extended his hitting streak to nine games.
In Tuesday’s 10-6 victory against the Antelopes, was 2-for-5 with one run scored, three RBIs and one double. On Wednesday, went 1-for-3 and added a sacrifice hit in the 6-5 win over Grand Canyon.
In Friday’s 9-6 victory over San José State, was 1-for-2 with one run scored, three RBIs, one walk, one hit-by-pitch and one home run. His three-run shot in the fifth inning helped UNM fight back from a 4-0 early deficit, and it gave UNM a 6-5 lead. As the DH in Saturday’s 3-2 win against the Spartans, went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one HBP. In the season finale he was 2-for-5 in the 11-1 finale victory. He scored two runs and hit a double.
Stajduhar is now hitting.346 on the season with seven doubles, five home runs and 18 runs batted in.
