ARLINGTON, TX—The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team had its second road match of the weekend today against the University of Texas Arlington. The Lobos had another close match, but this time they fell 4-3.
In doubles play, the Lobos fell early when they lost at the number one and three positions. Dominique Dulski and Ludivine Burguiere teamed up at number one to take on Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios. They fell 6-1.
Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat answered when they defeated Astrid Gehre and Jessica Birowski 6-2 at the number two position.
Sharon Coone and Ruth Copas played at the number three spot, but fell a close 6-4 to Agustina Serio and Valeria Lopez.
In singles play, Dulski and Copas fell early at the number three and five positions respectively, leaving it open for the Mavs to clinch the match with one more win.
However, the Lobos closed the gap and returned with the next three wins. Burguiere competed at the number two position and dominated Jessica Birowski 6-3, 6-1. Leblanc, who competed at the number one slot, topped Thoms 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Coone’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Gehre at the number four position tied New Mexico with UT Arlington. The match came down to the competition at the number six slot.
Rachana Bhat took Valeria Lopez to an exciting three sets. She won the first 7-6, but fell in the second 6-1. In the third set, she fought hard, but it wasn’t enough and se fell 6-4. The Lobos fall 4-3.
The Lobos look forward to their next set of matches, this time at home. They take on Colorado State April 1st and Wyoming April 3rd. Both are conference matches.
