Women’s Tennis Falls to Mississippi State

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team competed in day one of the Courtside Classic today in Minnesota. They took on a tough Mississippi State team and fell 6-1.
 
In doubles play, two New Mexico teams faced the same fate as they both fell to their opponents 6-1. Emily Olivier and Andrea Leblanc competed at the number one position and teammates Dominique Dulski and Rachana Bhat competed at the number two position.
 
Ludivine Burguiere and Sharon Coone played together at the number three positon in doubles play, but their match went unfinished.
 
In singles play at the number one position, Olivier fell to Mississippi State’s Jasmine Lee. Shortly after, Ruth Copas fell to Anastasia Rentouli at the number four position.
 
The only point for the Lobos was by Burguiere when she defeated Kristinia Vozniak 6-1, 6-3. Her match was the third to finish, but it wasn’t quite enough when Mississippi State clinched the match winning at the number two position.
 
The Lobos would not get any more points in singles play.
 
“Congratulations to Mississippi State,” said head coach Kelcy Mckenna. “We need to do a better job of starting in doubles. Chuck Whitney and everybody at the Courtside Booster Club have done such a good job and the Courtside Classic has been a great experience for us so far. We are looking forward to who we play tomorrow.”
