COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — 17 University of New Mexico track & field athletes were selected to the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field All-Conference men’s and women’s teams on Monday.
The Lobos, who received a pair of fourth-place finishes from the men and women during the MW Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center, saw six men and a relay team claim eight total honors, while four women and a relay team posted five total selections.
All-Mountain West selections are awarded to the top three finishers in each event at the conference championships.
For the men, Allan Hamilton led with two honors, one for his win in the long jump and the second for his runner-up performance in the triple jump. Ridge Jones also earned an individual honor for his title in the 60-meter dash.
Also capturing all-conference honors were Elmar Engholm (800), Yannick Roggatz (long jump), Samuel Trigg (triple jump) and Daniel Lam (heptathlon).
The men’s 4×400 meter relay team of Cheyne Dorsey, Chris Kline, Isaac Gonzales and Mark Haywood also earned all-conference honors.
On the women’s side, two titlists were accorded honors, with Sophie Connor in the mile and Jannell Hadnot in the triple jump.
Also receiving individual selections were Calli Thackery (mile) and Holly Van Grinsven (60 hurdles), while Van Grinsven teamed up with Haley Sanner, Zoe Howell and Larimar Rodriguez for all-conference honors in the 4×400 relay.
The Lobos’ next competition will be the NCAA Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12. Declarations for the NCAA Championships will be announced Tuesday, March 1.
