UNM Plays Host to Air Force for Lobos Love Pink Game

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball will play host to Air Force Saturday, Feb. 20 for the annual Lobos Love Pink game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will stream live on the Mountain West Network.

Promotions: For all fans wearing pink to the game, they will receive a discounted $5 ticket. There will be a jersey auction on the north concourse beginning at 1 p.m. and will close at the conclusion of halftime. Pom-poms will be distributed upon entry for the first 4,000 fans. The women’s basketball team will be available afterwards for autographs on the north concourse.

About The Matchup:
The Lobos will look for their second straight victory on Saturday, Feb. 20 as they host Air Force for their Lobos Love Pink game. This will be the 40th meeting between the two teams. The Lobos lead the all-time series 37-2. The Lobos have not lost to Air Force in WisePies Arena in the history of the program. Under head coach Yvonne Sanchez, the Lobos are 7-1 and 31-1 since she became part of the Lobo program.In the last meeting, the Lobos dominated the Falcons, defeating them 63-33 in Colorado Springs. 

 About New Mexico:
New Mexico is coming off a key 70-60 victory over Boise State Wednesday. The Lobos will look to Air Force Saturday for their second straight victory. On Wednesday, the Lobos were led by senior Bryce Owens, who finished with a team-high 13 points. Sophomore Alex Lapeyrolerie finished with a career-high 12 points, shooting a career-high 3-for-4 from the three. The Lobos shot 42 percent from the field and 50 percent (9-18) from the three. With the victory, the Lobos are now tied with Utah State for sixth place in the MW with a 6-7 record.
 
On the season, the Lobos are shooting 37 percent from the field and 29 percent from the three. They are averaging 62.9 ppg and 40.3 rpg. Shumpert is leading the squad at 13.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg but Beynon is leading the team in conference play with 14.0 ppg. She is shooting 42 percent from the three.
 
About Air Force:
Since the last meeting, Air Force won their first game of the season, claiming a 59-53 in over Nevada on Feb. 10. They played San Diego State close but fell 69-66 on Feb. 13 and only fell to UNLV 62-51 on Wednesday. Sophomore guard Sarah Cantu came off the bench to score 25 points against the Lady Rebels. She was 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 from the three.
               
On the season, the Falcons are shooting 33 percent from the field and 25 percent from the three. Sophomore guard continues to lead them in scoring at 11.2 ppg. She is shooting 34 percent from the field and 25 percent from the three. Cantu is second on the team, scoring 8.4 ppg. She is shooting 32 percent from the field and 31 percent from the three on the season.
 
The Falcons average 34.9 rebounds per game, including 12.7 offensive rebounds per game.
 
About the Coaches:
Yvonne Sanchez is in her fifth season as head coach of the Lobos. This is her 16th year with the program. Sanchez holds a 73-77 record as head coach and is currently 13-11 on the season and is tied for sixth in the Mountain West with a 6-7 record.
 
Chris Gobrecht is in her first season with the Air Force Academy. She is 1-24 this season and 1-13 in the Mountain West. She picked up her first victory of the season on Feb. 10, a 59-53 victory over Nevada.
