Lobos to Face Boise State Wednesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball is on the road, facing Boise State Wednesday night at 7 in Taco Bell Arena. The game will be available on the Mountain West Network.  

About The Matchup:
The Lobos will look to get back on track as they face Boise State on the road this Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT. This will be the 13th matchup between the two teams. The Broncos lead the all-time series 8-4. Boise State won the last matchup in WisePies Arena, downing the Lobos 81-60. Under head coach Yvonne Sanchez, the Lobos are 4-6. Boise State has won the last four out of five games. The last time the Lobos won in Taco Bell Arena was in 2013.
 
About New Mexico:
New Mexico will look to bounce back against the Broncos on Wednesday after a heartbreaking loss to SJSU Saturday. The Lobos fell in the final seconds 59-58. Khadijah Shumpert led the Lobos with 14 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Bryce Owens finished with 13 points, three assists and three steals. She shot 5-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
 
On the season, Shumpert leads the Lobos with 14.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Cherise Beynon is right behind with 12.3 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Beynon is shooting 32 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from the three but in conference she is shooting 41 percent from the three and averaging 14.3 ppg to lead the Lobos in conference action. Overall, the Lobos are shooting 37 percent from the field and 27 percent from the three to average 62.6 point a game.
 
About Boise State:
Boise State is coming off a tough week, falling to both Colorado STate 83-51 and Wyoming 82-58. At Wyoming, the Broncos only shot 30 percent (23-73) from the field and nine percent (2-23) from the three. Those numbers are completely opposite from the last outing with New Mexico. The Broncos shot lights out against the Lobos, shooting 55 percent (31-56) from the field and 48 percent (10-21) from the three. Junior forward Brooke Pahukoa led the Broncos that game, game-high of 25 points. She was 8-for-13 from the field, including 7-for-10 from the three.
               
On the season, Pahukoa is leading the squad with 14.9 ppg. She is shooting 42 percent from th field and 43 percent from the three. She also averages 5.2 rpg. Sophomore Shay Shaw is second on the team at 12.8 ppg. She is leading the team in rebounding at 8.9 rpg. Senior Miquelle Askew is the only other Bronco averaging double-figures. She puts together 12.6 ppg and averages 5.2 rpg. She is shooting 54 percent from the field and leads the team in free throws at 76.3 percent.
 
About the Coaches:
Yvonne Sanchez is in her fifth season as head coach of the Lobos. This is her 16th year with the program. Sanchez holds a 72-77 record as head coach and is currently 12-11 on the season and has a Mountain West record of 5-7.
 
Gordy Presnell is in his 11th year with Boise State and owns a 192-146 record for the Broncos. He is currently 16-8 on the season and in third place of the Mountain West. with a 9-4 record.
