MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team competed in the last day of the Courtside Classic today against Minnesota in the consolation match. The Lobos fought hard, but fell to the No. 60 ranked team 5-2.
In doubles play the Lobos held on to the last match. Dominique Dulski and Rachana Bhat took on Minnesota’s Caroline Ryba and Julia Courter. They fell 6-0 before teammates Ruth Copas and Andrea Leblanc defeated Jessika Mozia and Caitlyn Merzbacher 6-2 at the number two position.
With the doubles match points tied at 1-1, Emily Olivier and Ludivine Burguiere battled Paula Rincon-Otero and Annemarie Emme at the number one position. The pair hung in with Minnesota, but not for long enough and ended up falling a close 7-5.
In singles play at the number six position, Rachana Bhat came out strong and defeated her opponent first. She put up a point for the Lobos and beat Merzbacher 6-2, 6-3.
Ludivine Burguiere was next to finish her match. She topped her opponent 7-5, 6-1 leaving her undefeated in singles play at the Courtside Classic.
The Lobos seemed to be on a roll early in singles play, but those two points would be the only points they would clinch. They fell 5-2.
The Lobos are currently 3-2 in the season. They look forward to hosting Denver at home on February 12 at 12 p.m. at the Linda Estes Tennis Center.
