ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico volleyball team took the court for a match for the first time in 2016, topping a team of alumni and current players in five sets in Johnson Center.
The Lobos rallied past the alumni team that featured former UNM All-Americans Jeanne Fairchild and Allison Buck in the fifth set for the exhibition win, as the entire New Mexico squad played multiple sets.
“We had different people fill different roles and we had to try a couple different lineups to see how those different roles would mesh,” Lobo assistant coach JJ Glavan said. “But overall, I’d say we’re very happy with the steps we’ve taken so far in the spring to make us better for next fall.”
New Mexico returns to action with another exhibition match next Saturday, as it plays Air Force at West Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, N.M. at noon.
