ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico junior left-hander Carson Schneider has been named one of college baseball’s top Major League Baseball draft prospects by D1baseball.com. Schneider, who was one of eight Mountain West players listed, came in at No. 260 overall.
The lanky Albuquerque native began his Lobo career in the bullpen, posting a UNM freshman record 24 appearances in 2014. He began last season in the bullpen as well, but moved into a starting role late in the season. He made six starts, including one in the Mountain West Tournament against Fresno State on May 23. He went 7.1 innings and struck out a career-high five batters to lead UNM to a 9-1 win and a berth in the championship game. For his career Schneider is 7-2 with a 3.72 ERA in 84.2 innings spanning 47 appearances.
The Lobos open their season on Feb. 19 at Hawai’i.
