ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs has announced that Bob Davie has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with The University of New Mexico through the 2021 season.
It is the second contract extension for Davie during his tenure at New Mexico. He received his first extension in April of 2013 after his first season with the Lobos. Davie was named the head coach for New Mexico on November 17, 2011.
“Under the leadership of Coach Davie, our football program has transformed both on and off the field,” said Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. “We have a healthy future for our program, and I’m excited to have Coach Davie lead us.”
In four seasons, Davie has led UNM to 18 wins, including a 7-6 season in 2015 that included UNM’s first Bowl appearance since the 2007 season. The Lobos also went 5-3 in conference play, tying for the most conference wins since the 1997 season. UNM in 2015 had over 5,000 yards of total offense for only the seventh time in school history and UNM showcased one of the nation’s most improved defenses.
Previous to Davie’s arrival, the Lobos were just 3-37 over the previous 40 games, including three consecutive 1-11 seasons.
Along with the on-the-field improvement, the Lobos have improved in the classroom as well. After his first three seasons, UNM has 50 Mountain West Scholar-Athletes, the highest three-year total in school history. UNM has also turned in several semesters the rank among the highest in school history for GPA.
