Women’s Basketball Recruits Named McDonald’s All-American Nominees

The University of New Mexico’s 2016-17 women’s basketball recruits Mykiel Burleson and Brittany Panetti were both named 2015 McDonald’s High School All-American Games nominees announced Tuesday.

The games will be held on March 30 in Chicago, Ill. The 15th annual Girls Game will air live on ESPNU at 5:30 p.m. CT. 2016 will mark the 19th consecutive year that the McDonald’s All-American games will be broadcasted on ESPN. McDonald’s will name the final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls, who will be picked to play in the 2016 games during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU, airing Sunday, January 17 at 9:30pm CT.

Burleson, a 5-10 guard from Pflugerville High School in Pflugerville, Texas signed with UNM in November. ESPNW rater her No. 25 in the country at the wing position. She is a 3-star recruit with a 90 rating. Burleson missed her junior season due to injury but is back and healthy for her senior year. As a sophomore, she averaged 9.0 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and 1.8 steals per game. She maintains a 3.4 GPA and is interested in majoring in sports journalism or psychology.

Panetti, a 6-3 power forward out of Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas also signed with the Lobos back in November. She averaged 10.1 points per game, 10 rebounds per game and 3.0 blocks per game as just a sophomore. She missed her junior season due to injury but is back healthy for her final high school season. She was named to the All-Mansfield Tournament Team this season. ESPNW rated her No. 57 power forward in the country. She is a 3-star recruit with a 90-rating. Panetti maintains a 3.5 GPA and is looking to be a civil engineering major here at UNM.
