ALBUQUERUQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico sophomore Cullen Neal has officially received a medical hardship for his season-ending ankle injury suffered last year. The point guard sustained the injury early in the second half of the Lobos’ third game of the season, versus Boston College, in the 2014 ESPN Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Neal will receive a medical redshirt for the 2014-15 season after missing the final 28 games and will be a sophomore in eligibility for the 2015-16 season.

The Albuquerque native erupted for 49 points in UNM’s first two games of the season, which included eight made three-point field goals. He averaged 17.0 points and 3.7 assists per game in his three appearances while shooting 50 percent (8 of 16) from beyond the arc and 17 of 20 (.850) at the free throw line.
