ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico senior guard Bryce Owens has been nominated for the Allstate Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team, the WBCA announced Wednesday.
This prestigious community service award recognizes a distinguished group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their communities.
Owens averaged 8.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game to go along with a team-leading 2.8 assists on the court in 2014-15. This season, she is averaging 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to go along with 2.8 assists per game.
In the classroom, Owens has a 3.25 grade point average and earned Academic All-Mountain West honors the past three seasons. She is on schedule to graduate in May with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with a minor in business.
Owens has been a team captain for two seasons (2014-15, 2015-16), but her leadership transcends beyond the basketball court. In the community, Owens has volunteered her time visiting the UNM Children’s Hospital. She has also volunteered with the Ronald McDonald Foundation, Lobo Fever Adoption Event, which engages with children in physical activities, Rio Grande Down Syndrome Network and wheelchair basketball with children with disabilities.
A distinguished voting panel will select a five-member team from the 71 Division I nominees in February.
