Women’s Hoops Return Home, Play Host to Pepperdine

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After a week off from play, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team returns home to take on Pepperdine Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be available on the Mountain West Network here.

About The Matchup:
New Mexico will face Pepperdine for its first of two home games in December. This will be the fourth meeting of all-time between the two teams. Pepperdine is leading the all-time series 2-1. The last time the two teams met was in Nov. 2011 in head coach Yvonne Sanchez’s first season. Pepperdine claimed a 59-50 overtime victory over the Lobos in WisePies Arena.
 
About New Mexico:
The Lobos are coming off their first road win of the season, after claiming a 63-58 close victory over SMU last week. This season UNM is outscoring their opponents by 6.5 points. The Lobos are averaging 69.4 points per game to their opponents 62.9. They are also shooting better from the field. The Lobos have a 41 shooting percentage to their opponents 37 percent. Another category the Lobos are above their opponents is rebounding. The Lobos are averaging 41.6 rebounds per game to their opponents 36.6 which is a +5.0 rebounding margin. The Lobos also have a 1.0 assist to turnover ratio to their opponents 0.7.
 
About Pepperdine:
Pepperdine is currently 4-6 on the season, suffering losses to Army West Point, Mountain West foe UNLV, University of Albany, Alaska Anchorage, George Mason and Cal Poly. Their four wins come against Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara and Denver and they are coming off a close 76-73 win over Bakersfield Tuesday. They are averaging 62.8 points per game and 36.3 rebounds per game. They are relying on freshman Erica Ogwumike, who is averaging 16.9 ppg and 7.9 rpg. Junior guard Allie Green is second on the team in scoring with 11 ppg. She is shooting 42 percent from the field. As a team, they are averaging 18.8 turnovers per game and 11.2 assists per game. They have a -3.5 rebound margin.
 
About the Coaches:
Yvonne Sanchez is in her fifth season as head coach of the Lobos. This is her 16th year with the program. Sanchez holds a 65-69 record as head coach and is currently 5-3 on the season. This is her second match up with Pepperdine as a head coach.
 
Ryan Weisenberg is in his third season with Pepperdine. He owns a 15-49 overall record for the Waves and it currently 4-6 on the season.
