Gullatt Named MW Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West has named University of New Mexico volleyball player Skye Gullatt as MW Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches contested from November 24-28.

Gullatt, a senior middle blocker from Denver, posted a double-double in the Lobos’ season finale vs. Air Force, recording 12 kills and 10 blocks as she captured a share of program record in total blocks.

In her final game in a New Mexico uniform, Gullatt logged a season-high 10 blocks against the Falcons, missing her career high in total blocks by one. But the 10 blocks were just enough to forge a tie with Chelsea Sondrup (2002-05) for the program record in career blocks.

Gullatt finished with 465 career total blocks during her four years at New Mexico.

Her nine block assists vs. the Falcons are the most by a Lobo this season and is her highest total since recording 10 vs. SMU on Sept. 20, 2014. Her block assists with Cassie House on an Air Force attempt won the second set for New Mexico.

Gullatt also tied her career high in kills with 12, including two kills during a key 5-0 run during the decisive fourth set. She hit .391 with 3 errors on 23 attempts.

This is Gullatt’s first career MW player of the week honor, but it’s the second weekly honor for the Lobos in the last two weeks. Hannah Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Week last Monday.

It’s the third straight year New Mexico has received at least two MW player of the week selections.
