4 Volleyball Players Named to All-Mountain West Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Four University of New Mexico volleyball players have been named to the 2015 Mountain West All-Conference Women’s Volleyball Team, the conference announced Monday.

Senior setter Hannah Johnson and senior middle blocker Skye Gullatt were both named to the all-conference team, while senior middle blocker Simone Henderson and junior outside hitter Cassie House were named honorable mention.

It’s the third straight all-conference selection for Johnson, and the second in a row for House. Gullatt and Henderson are both earning their first All-MW honors.

“The entire staff is very happy for Skye, Hannah, Cassie and Simone on being selected to the all-conference team,” New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson said. “It is a great honor for each, along with our program and all of our players. It is a testament to the hard work each of these student athletes have put in this season.”

Johnson, out of Longview, Wash., finished her senior campaign with 1,144 assists (9.95 per set), giving her 4,167 assists in her collegiate career. She finished second in program history in career assists, and ranks 12th in MW history and 14th among all active DI players in career assists.

Her 1,144 assists rank second in MW and 73rd in NCAA, and she put up 665 assists (10.23/set) during MW play.

She recorded 310 digs to lead UNM and is the first player since 2003 to lead team in assists and digs. She recorded 13 double-doubles in 2015, tied for third-most in MW this season.

Johnson also hit .358 and tallied 72 blocks as a setter over the season.  

Additionally, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team this season.

Gullatt, hailing for Denver, Colo., finished the season with 141 total blocks, with 29 solos and 112 block assists. She ranked third in the MW and 40th in the NCAA in total blocks and finished fifth in the MW and 39th in the NCAA in blocks per set.

Gullatt finished her collegiate career tied for the program lead in total blocks with 465 and sits 15th among active Division I players in career blocks. Her 29 block solos led the MW this season.

She also hit .286 with 198 kills, ranking 10th in the MW in hitting percentage.

House, a Rio Rancho, N.M., product, finished second for New Mexico in kills with 276 (2.51/set), hitting .202 on the season. She posted service aces with 23 (second-best on the team) and registered 86 total blocks (0.78/set).

She posted one double-double (10 kills, 11 digs) vs. Fresno State and hit a career-high .407 with 16 kills at Air Force in the season finale.

Henderson, from Palm Springs, Calif., hit .319 on the season and .306 in MW play, ranking ninth in the conference. She hit over .500 six times over the season, including a .643 success rate at Colorado State.

Henderson also finished second for New Mexico in blocks with 102 blocks, posting a season-high eight blocks at San Diego State.

It’s the third straight year that New Mexico earned four All-MW selections, and the Lobos’ four honorees are third-most in the MW behind league champion Colorado State (five) and league runner up Boise State (five).
