ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior midfielder Josh Dye of the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team was named First Team Academic All-America by CoSIDA the organization announced Tuesday. Dye, who was a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American last year, will graduate this December with a 4.07 GPA in electrical engineering.
“What a well deserved honor,” UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “Josh’s commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom is pretty humbling actually. His last two seasons have been tremendous. He’s played virtually every minute, and he hasn’t missed a beat in the classroom. He’s a great example for any student-athlete to aspire to.”
One of two seniors on this year’s team, Dye appeared in all 18 games and started 17 while being named Third Team All-Conference USA. He played every second of 15 matches this season to lead all Lobo midfielders in minutes played with 1,632. He is Lobo Men’s Soccer’s first First Team Academic All-American since Simon Ejdemyr earned the accolade in both 2008 and 2009.
Dye finished his career with one goal and two assists from his central holding midfield position. He appeared in 52 games and played 3,539 minutes. In 2013 when the Lobos advanced to the College Cup, he made 12 appearances off the bench.
