Johnson Named MW Offensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West has named University of New Mexico volleyball player Hannah Johnson as MW Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for matches contested from November 18-21.

Johnson, a senior setter from Longview, Wash., led the Lobos in a win over Utah State last Wednesday on Senior Night and again on Saturday vs. Boise State as she continues to strive for the program’s all-time record in career assists.

She currently has 4,124 career assists is just 50 assists from tying the program record, and helped her cause considerably during New Mexico’s slate last week.

Johnson dished out 78 total assists on the week, including a 43-assist performance vs. Boise State, to average 11.14 assists per set, which is nearly 1.25 assists/set more than her season average.

She converted on 35 percent of her set attempts, tallying those 78 assists on 221 total attempts.

Johnson also registered 13 kills with one error on 24 attempts for a weekly hitting percentage of .500.

She posted six kills with one errors on nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage against the Aggies and followed that up with an errorless seven kills on 15 attempts for a .467 hitting percentage vs. the Broncos.

Her third kill in the first set won the set vs. Utah State and she also assisted on the final three kills in set two and connected with fellow senior Skye Gullatt for the match-winning kill in set three.

Against Boise State, Johnson assisted on the final kill in the Lobos’ first-set win and set up four points in UNM’s 5-1 run to take a 23-22 lead in set three.

She also had one ace, 22 digs and 10 total blocks over the week.

This is Johnson’s second career MW player of the week honor and first since October 7, 2013. It’s also the first for New Mexico this season. Chantale Riddle claimed the award last for UNM on November 3, 2014.

New Mexico closes out its season on Tuesday as they travel to Air Force for a 6:30 p.m. MT match vs. the Falcons.
