CoSIDA Men’s Soccer Academic All-District Teams

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three student-athletes on the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team have been named Academic All-District by CoSIDA the organization announced Thursday. Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu and junior defender Chris Gurule both earned the honor for a first time, while senior midfielder Josh Dye has earned the award for the second straight season.
A native of Montreal, Beaulieu has started very game in goal for UNM this season and has a 1.07 GAA and a .785 save percentage. He recorded a career-high nine saves against Charlotte on Oct. 27, and he has seven games this season in which he has at least five saves. He owns a 3.91 GPA and is majoring in civil engineering. Last season he was Conference USA All-Academic, and he earned both a C-USA Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Gurule owns a 3.62 cumulative GPA in business administration. The Niwot, Colorado, native has started every game at center back for UNM and played 1,376 minutes, which is 95 percent of UNM’s total game action this season. He earned a C-USA Academic Medal last season. On Sept. 13 at LMU he assisted on UNM’s game-tying goal in the Lobos’ eventual 2-1 victory. He has also saved two goals this season with goal line clearances.
Dye is an Albuquerque native and was a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America last year. He owns a 4.08 GPA in electrical engineering and was also a C-USA Academic All-Conference honoree last year. In 2013 he was runner up for the Elite 89 Award, which is the top academic award given by the NCAA. Last year he was also named to the UNM All-Academic Team. This year he has played in 1,342 minutes in the midfield for the Lobos.
All three student-athletes are now eligible for Academic All-America status. Voting begins next week and the winners will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 24.
