COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – New Mexico sophomore Ingrid Gutierrez and UNLV freshman Kaylee Benton have been named Mountain West Co-Women’s Golfers of the Month for October. This is the first MW golfer of the month/week accolade for both student-athletes.
A native of Cuautla, Mexico, Gutierrez spearheaded the Lobos in both the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Throughout the month of October, Gutierrez recorded two top-20 finishes, ending tied for sixth at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and tied for 18th at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Gutierrez carded an even-par 216 at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and shot a career best seven-under (207) at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. In the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which was played at the 6,277-yard Boulder Creek Golf Course, Gutierrez registered a career-low round of 68 (-4).In addition, Gutierrez recorded an astounding 13 birdies in 54 holes at the Las Vegas Showdown.
As a result of her success in these tournaments, Ingrid helped lead the Lobos to a fifth and ninth-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, respectively.
