Lobo Faithful:
Learn from the past, enjoy every moment we spend together and intelligently and methodically prepare for our next challenge….the boys are coming off a “character building” win, quality and focused in training this week and ready for Friday night vs Marshall University. I’m a week behind with my “Lobo Faithful” email. Please allow me a “mulligan” on this one. I was busy playing handball off the curb, crawling under ants…..I was low….frustrated with myself and wanting more for our players. I’m recharged, I’ve “smelled the roses” and back on track. Our challenge is to embrace the matches which require grit, fight, maturity, direct play and scrapping for second balls. We have this vision (naive at times) of beautiful, skillful soccer…connecting passes, combination play, playing out of the back, overlapping runs from fullbacks, interchange amongst our front four…..sounds great in theory, but the majority of teams play with a different set of standards….compact in the back, highly organized, embrace the fight, play into channels, big balls into the target, fight for second balls, break up the rhythm of the game…we need to be able to play skillful, attacking soccer and match the physical nature of our opponents. I like where we are today. We’ve learned and matured from the ups and downs of the past three weeks. Proud of our reaction and excited for Friday nights match in Wild West Virginia.
Sunday night’s 3-2 thriller over UAB was fun for the fans, gut-wrenching from the sidelines. Without re-living the experience, an explosive come from behind victory and a sign of exciting times ahead: http://www.golobos.com/news/2015/10/18/MSOC_1018152740.aspx
For his efforts, freshman Francesco Casucci was named Conference-USA Offensive Player of the Week: http://www.golobos.com/news/2015/10/19/MSOC_1019154008.aspx
