Lady Lobos Start Perfect in Prestigious Tournament

Las Vegas, Nev.—The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team is in Las Vegas for the ITA Mountain Region Women’s Tennis Championships. The Lobos competed in singles and doubles play on Wednesday.
 
In singles play, LeBlanc battled Toby Miciat of Brigham Young University 5-7, 7-5, 6-4  in the round of 128. She advances to the round of 64 to play against Belen Barcenilla of the University of Idaho. Dominique Dulski defeated Celine Koets, also from the university of Idaho, 6-1, 6-4 in her first singles match.
 
Ruth Copas, Ludivine Burguiere, Rachana Bhat and Sharon Coone also all won their singles matches in the round of 128 and will advance. Emily Olivier had a bye in the round of 128 and will start her singles play in the round of 64.
 
In doubles play, Olivier and Burguiere had a bye the first round and will start the second. The duo of Dulski and Coone took on Madison Porter and Aina Hernandez Soler of Colorado State University and came out victorious, winning the match 8-7.
 
LeBlanc and Bhat faced off against Magdalena Stencel and Tessa Van der Ploeg of Wyoming and won 8-3. They will also advance.
 
“I’m incredibly proud of the competing and effort each girl brought to the courts today,” said head coach Kelcy KcKenna. “We had excellent energy and played well overall.”
 
The lady Lobos will continue tournament play through the week.
