ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Lobos (1-2, 0-0) will open conference play with an old foe in the Wyoming Cowboys (0-3. 0-0) on Saturday afternoon at 1:08 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyoming. The game is the conference opener for both teams and it will be UNM’s first day game of the season.
The Coaches:
The University of New Mexico Lobos are coached by Bob Davie, who is 12-28 in his fourth season with the Lobos, and he is 47-53 overall in his ninth season. He spent his first five seasons as a head coach manning the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For the Cowboys, they are coached by Craig Bohl in his second year with the program. Bohl is 4-11 with the Cowboys, but overall he is 108-43. Bohl spent 11 seasons with North Dakota State, leading the Bison to three straight NCAA Division I FCS National Championships and a 43-2 record over his final three seasons.
Series History:
The two teams have met 67 times previously, with Wyoming owning a slim 35-32 advantage in the series. UNM won the last meeting to end a three-game Wyoming win streak, but for the most part, it’s been a tight, even series. Over the last eight years, the series is 4-4. The two teams played every year from 1949-1994, and then after a four year sabbatical, the teams have played every year from 1999 onward. Wyoming leads the series in Laramie 18-14, having won three straight.
Overall, four of the last five games have been decided by a seven points or less, including last years’ 36-30 Lobo win that saw UNM post a goal line stand in the final minute for the win.
Broadcast Information:
The broadcast will be first of five Lobo games on ROOT Sports. Marc Stoudt will have the call along with former Cal State Northridge quarterback Sed Bonner. Tori Holt will man the sidelines for the network. ROOT Sports is available on DISH Network 414, DirecTV 683, and Comcast 261. For fans outside of the ROOT Sport Rocky Mountain footprint, the game is streamed on the Mountain West Network.
