LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The University of New Mexico Lobo women’s tennis team opened up their fall season on Friday afternoon with a trip down to Las Cruces for the 2015 Aggie Invitational. The Lobos had a solid showing on opening day, including wins by Sharon Coone and Ruth Copas.
The pair both had second round, quarterfinal wins as well. Coone defeated Matilda Tench of UTEP 6-3, 6-1 and Copas defeated UTEP’s Bethan Hayward 6-2, 7-5. Other Lobos to get wins on Friday were Dominique Dulski, Emily Olivier, Andrea LeBlanc, Ludivine Burguiere and Rachana Bhat.
“We got off to a great start in doubles and continued to maintain that same energy during round one of singles today,” said head coach Kelcy McKenna after opening day. “I am hopeful that we can make adjustments moving into tomorrow and continue to improve on day two.”
The Aggie Invitational continues over the weekend with matches on Saturday and Sunday in Las Cruces.
