ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico redshirt junior midfielder Chris Wehan was named National Player of the Week by College Soccer News on Monday. Wehan, who was named both the Tournament MVP and Offensive MVP of the Grange & Ashwill Memorial Invitational last weekend, scored twice in the second half of both Lobo matches.
He turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in less than five minutes Friday night versus San Diego, and Sunday against No. 19 UCSB he notced the equalizer in the 66th minute and the game-winner in the 87th.
“I’m living on a high right now,” he said following UNM’s come-from-behind win on Sunday, “but I couldn’t be happier for the team. This was two tough games, coming from behind in both of them, but it shows a lot of the group to believe (that we could come back).”
This weekend UNM travels to California for matches at CSUN on Friday and LMU on Sunday.
