Charles McMillian Named Defensive Passing Game Coordinator

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Bob Davie has announced that assistant coach Charles McMillian has been promoted and named Defensive Passing Game Coordinator.  McMillian, in his second year on the staff, will also continue his duties as coach of UNM’s safeties.

Last season, McMillian coached both the corners and the safeties, and UNM saw marked improvement as the secondary itself picked off eight passes in 2014 after getting just two in 2013.  One of McMillian’s, seniors SaQwan Edwards, signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders.

“Chuck plays a major role on our defensive staff and has earned the title of Defensive Passing Game Coordinator,” said Davie.  “He has been a valuable addition to our program and a role model to our players as we continue to build.”

“It an honor that Coach Davie would think of me in this way,” said McMillian.  “My job is to help the University of New Mexico and Coach Davie build a winning program.  I’m blessed to have this opportunity and I’m just here to make the Lobos better.”

UNM’s opening game is September 5 at 6 p.m. against Mississippi Valley State at Branch Field at University Stadium.
