ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico cross country coaching staff has announced a schedule change to the Lobo Invitational to be held this Saturday, Sept. 5, at the UNM North Golf Course.

The meet — which was originally scheduled to have a community race, two divisions of high school races and college races — will only include a community race and high school races due to a conflict with the collegiate opponents.

However, UNM cross country is still hosting the community and high school races this Saturday as a commitment to the growth of the sport in the local community.

Below is the updated schedule for the Lobo Invitational:

  • Community Fun Run/High School “C”: 8 a.m. MT
  • High School Varsity Boys: 8:45 a.m. MT
  • High School Varsity Girls: 9:30 a.m. MT
  • High School Junior Varsity Boys: 10:15 a.m. MT
  • High School Junior Varsity Girls: 11 a.m. MT
  • Awards Ceremony: 12 p.m. MT

The two other collegiate institutions that were slated to participate at the Lobo Invitational, New Mexico State and UTEP, are instead competing at the Texas Tech Double Duals this Friday in Ruidoso, N.M.

Both NMSU and UTEP have attended the Lobo Invitational at least 10 of the last 15 years since the meet’s inception in 2000, with New Mexico State competing at 10 (2002-03, 2007-14) and UTEP 12 (2002-11, 2013-14) of the meets.

But, without the adequate number of collegiate teams, New Mexico is unable to count this competition towards its mandated number of events for a competition season. Consequently, instead of forfeiting the weekend and risking issues with countable competitions, New Mexico will participate at the Texas Tech Double Duals this Friday.
