ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team opened its 2015 exhibition schedule with a 2-1 win against the visiting Air Force Falcons at the UNM Soccer Complex on a rainy Saturday night. Nicholas Rochowski broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 56th minute, and Matt Dorsey added the second in the 84th minute off Chris Wehan’s cross. The Falcons scored with 22 seconds left, but it was too little too late against the Lobos.
“I was real happy with the performance,” UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “It was great to get the win. I thought we showed a lot of composure, we dealt a little adversity with the weather, but I was happy with the guys. … We created a lot of chances, showed a lot of energy. But more than anything it’s just a real cohesive group. They enjoy playing with each other and for each other. That’s probably what I’m most happy about.”
A robust crowd of 1,180 came out and braved the elements to see New Mexico outshoot Air Force 23-6 and gain a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
“We had a great crowd,” said Fishbein. “That was awesome. People are behind this team, and you can feel their energy. It was good to get back out here. It had been a while.”
