If you are an alum of The University of New Mexico Ski Team, you need to get the weekend of October 1-4 on the calendar as head coach Fredrik Landstedt has announced that taht weekend will be UNM’s Alumni Weekend for the ski team.
As is always the case, the first week of October is a great time to visit New Mexico.
The team will host its alumni golf tournament on Thursday October 1 for those who get to town early. The golf tournament brings together local alumni and skiers and most of the participants are not golfers, but everyone has a great time. Each team of four gets two golf carts with coolers sponsored by Premier and Pepsi along with a goodie bag valued at around $80. There will be a dinner and lots of raffle prices as well as an auction. It is a scramble format where you play best ball. All ski team alums will receive a special rate of $100/player (normal cost is $150).
The golf tournament is just one of the many events for the weekend.
Other activities:
Thursday and Friday Evening – Get together at local Breweries and at a good New Mexican restaurant.
Saturday morning – Hiking or Fishing trip. Balloon Fiesta in the evening (opening day) or Rio Grande Rivalry Football game vs. New Mexico State Aggies.
Sunday morning – Mass ascension at the Balloon Fiesta.
Lodging for alums must be procured by the alums and former ski team members should plan early since it is Balloon Fiesta time in Albuquerque.
