ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team is pleased to announce the addition of midfielder Francesco Casucci to the 2015 squad. A native of Puglia, Italy, and born in Geneva, Switzerland, Casucci has spent the last several years playing for the U16, U18 and U20 teams of Torino of Serie A in Italy.
“He’s played with some of the biggest clubs in the world so he brings a bit of a different perspective,” UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “One of the most exciting things is he was captain of Torino’s under-20 team. He played with some big players, and to be a leader among players like that takes some special qualities.”
Casucci was named one of the best 300 players in Italy and was compared to Miralem Pjanic, who plays for Roma. After coming to the U.S. he attended Killian Oaks Academy in Miami, Fla.
“He’s only been here a short time but it’s pretty evident the type of personality and drive he has,” said Fishbein. “He’s pretty unique, and I’m really excited to have him here and am looking forward to getting to know him better. He’s going to be a pretty special team member.”
